In such a steel pipe joint, a tensile strength in a tensile test at room temperature is at a level of 120 to 200 MPa. Accordingly, when the pipe is long and is made thin, or when the joint is used in a high-temperature environment, a possibility arises of a pipe joint being subjected to a destructive thermal stress resulting from a difference in a coefficient of thermal expansion between the pipe and the joint. As one method of preventing the pipe joint from being subjected to the destructive thermal stress, a method of bonding a pressure coating material to an end portion of the pipe material is conventionally used. More specifically, in manufacturing the steel pipe joint, a heat treatment is performed on the pipe material and a given thickness of the end portion of the pipe material is covered with the pressure coating material. In this state, the pressure coating material is welded to the end portion of the pipe material. As another method of preventing the pipe joint from being subjected to the destructive thermal stress, there is a known method of manufacturing the pipe joint by forming a weld metal layer and a weld bead in a weld end portion of a steel material, thereafter performing a quenching process, and further forming a weld bead in a surface layer of the weld metal layer in order to further improve the material property and the material quality of the steel material and to ensure the material property and the material quality of the weld bead.
